House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined the growing chorus in Washington on Thursday for President Donald Trump’s removal from office, saying the 25th Amendment of the constitution should be invoked or he may be impeached for a second time.
“I join the Senate Democratic Leader in calling on the Vice President to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment. If the vice president and the cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment,” Pelosi said in her weekly press conference at the U.S. Capitol.
Pelosi did not give a timeline for deciding whether to begin a second impeachment of Trump in addition to the one he was acquitted of by the Republican Senate in January 2020. She said that depended on how quickly Vice President Mike Pence responds.
“I don’t know how quickly he’ll respond. We’ll see,” she said, adding she hoped it could be as soon as today.
